The Training

Overview

The IAPD driver improvement programs go well beyond simple defensive driving. Through classroom instruction and unique track-side hands-on training, our effective and proven methods produce safer and more knowledgeable drivers.

In the Classroom: Physics and Mechanics of Driving

Dick Turner developed the methods used in our classes based on the belief that there are both mental and physical aspects of driving. In the classroom, drivers learn the physics and the mechanics of vehicle operations. The courses break down the theory behind offensive and defensive driving techniques and teach strategies that students can use to drive more safely and efficiently.

On the Track: Low Speed—High Stress Methods

Beyond the classroom, the track-side hands-on training uses our unique, low speed, high stress method of teaching safe driving techniques. A series of carefully designed driving exercises creates a more realistic simulation of the tensions and situations experienced while driving at highway speeds. This permits the student to concentrate on the driving instructions, imprinting a strong knowledge of correct driving methods, and serves to make every participant a better and safer driver.

The Training System

The IAPD training system gives you flexible scheduling, maximum efficiency, and expert knowledge transfer through a program of IAPD Certified Driving Instructors and IAPD Student Registrations.

IAPD Certified Driving Instructors

In order to uphold the quality and consistency of our training, all classes are taught by IAPD trained and certified instructors. This ensures that everyone is learning the most efficient, safest way to drive using proven techniques that have been thoroughly researched and proven.

We believe that the best instructors are those that are close to the students and the subject that they teach. The specific vehicle dynamics and the driving environment your personnel will experience often vary. Therefore, we offer to train and certify individuals within your organization, company, or agency as IAPD Certified Driving Instructors. Once you have a certified IAPD instructor on staff, you can deliver the training at any time and location convenient for you, using the same equipment and conditions that the students will encounter on the road as a part of their job.

IAPD Student Registrations

Each student registration that you purchase includes a manual, course examination, practical exercise score sheets, and certification. The certificates are issued by IAPD and then signed by the instructor. In addition, IAPD maintains a registry of all student registrations and certifies the training for three years.

Warranty

Our limited warranty applies to organizations, companies, municipalities, departments or other entities whose drivers have successfully completed an IAPD drivers program within the term prescribed and outlined within their certification. Please contact IAPD for details.
